First Data and Bankverein Werther AG Launch New
Prepaid Card in Germany

Bankverein Werther AG, a private bank in Germany, and First Data, a global leader in electronic commerce and payment services, have joined forces to launch a new MasterCard-branded general-purpose prepaid card that offers a range of cashless payment options.
The card, available to consumers now, allows the bank to tap into new target groups such as the youth market and those seeking to control spending. Under the terms of the agreement, First Data will provide all card processing services, from handling customer applications to providing technical processing and contact center services.
First Data will also work with Bankverein Werther to offer the ability to use the prepaid card for mobile bill payment, top up and reload, which the bank anticipates will drive strong growth in the future.
“We are extremely satisfied with the progress of this project to date,” said Oliver Kehela, a member of the Bankverein Werther AG management board. “First Data succeeded in implementing our initial concept of a prepaid card at extraordinary speed. The card will be issued in cooperation with net mobile AG, a leading international provider of mobile and interactive value added services. The card will fit under Werther’s First Mobile Bank brand.
